How to measure curtains. When measuring the curtain drop you need to decide where you want them to sit. When you measure for curtains always use a steel tape to take your measurements. Every measurement you take WRITE IT DOWN.

Fabric or plastic type tape-measures tend to stretch over time and may give a false reading. Measure the length of the window or area you want to cover from top to bottom. The curtain should measure 1 ½ to double the width of the window for fullness.

If you are using curtain poles measure from the bottom of the curtain ring to the floor this will give you the final drop measurement. For pencil pleats on a track measure the drop by starting from the top of the track and for pencil pleats on a curtain pole measure from the eye of the curtain rings where youll be hooking your curtains into. If you want them above the window sill youll need to measure to 1cm above it.

Door panels and sidelights are measured from the top rod pocket to the bottom rod pocket. If you want your curtains to go to the floor measure to around 125cm to 15cm above it. By moving your rod up or down a little you can adjust the position of the curtain at your window.

If youre buying curtains with eyelets or tab tops measure from the top of the pole to allow for the fabric heading above the pole. If you want your curtains to sit below the window sill measure to 15cm below. Measure from either of these points down to your chosen end point and thats your drop measurement.

Measure the width of the glass area you are covering as well as the length.
